Activity 4 of Summer learning Journey

I would like to go visit Tane Mahuta because I would like to visit new trees and plants and also learn about them. My school Wesley Primary went on camp to Waitakere Ranges for one night but it was only room 3 & 4 and we got to learn about the Kauri diebak and why it is spreading and it was so fun.

  1. Hello again Genesis,

Wow, how incredible is it that you went on a school camp and learnt about Kauri dieback. I read that the Department of Conservation is working hard to protect Tane Mahuta from the disease and it might not be long until it is infected. Wouldn't it be awful if the legendary tree was to become one of the victims of this awful disease.

To be honest, I don't know an awful lot about the disease. Maybe you could let me know some facts about the Kauri dieback disease that you learnt on camp. How does it spread between Kauri trees? Do you know how the DOC is trying to protect the trees?

I am looking forward to reading some more of your SLJ posts.

    Kindest regards,
    Megan :)
